day 20 on 15 eggs, only one live one! *******UPDATE!!!!!!!*******

going to wait and see what happens with the rest of the eggs - but i'm not holding out hope that any more will pip. tomorrow is day 23, so reaching the edges of the limits soon. kids are thrilled.

not just yet... got to get enough interest built up in egg sales with some of the local natural food stores, boutiques, etc. before i can build up the flock too much. haven't raised egg layers in about 5 years - not since we started bringing home children, and they just don't lay eggs like chickens do!

woke this am to find three live chicks.

also, two more eggs pipped, but then nothing. one managed to get out of the egg, but isn't thriving. appears the other isn't even going to emerge. doesn't seem to have the vitality of the other three... seven other eggs - dead. two with fully formed chicks... hmm... interesting outcome. kids are very happy.

YAY for three beautiful chickens (and one more we hope will pull through!)

And yay for hatching chicks with kids, it's the most rewarding thing ever, isn't it?
