Day 20

Today is day 20 for my blrw hen! Waiting is going to be so hard now that the time is so close. This is my first time hatching chicks. Is there anything I should be doing in preparation?

No, chicks are pretty timely. Keep the chicks and mom separate from the flock so the flock doesn't pick on the chicks. How exciting!

Just checked my hen and I have one baby sticking its beak out and another egg is cracked!!!!! Me and my twin 4 yr old boys are so excited! I will be checking on them throughout the night. How long does it take for them to hatch out of their shell?

I don't know how long, but in the morning you'll find more! Hens know what they're doing. Be careful how much you disturb her. (I should talk!)

Thanks for your help! I've heard that a hen can attack her chicks and since she's a first timer, I wanted to make sure the babies are safe. Have you heard of this or experienced it?

Four cute blrw chicks & another is in the process of hatching. My hen is a great mom. 6 eggs left to hatch with 3 of them being silver laced. Hope they all hatch!
