Day 21 and no pips

New hatch in new incubator. No issues…until today of course! It is coming up on Day 20 this evening, when I went to check on the eggs this morning I saw 6 external pups then noticed the humidity was only 34%!! I have no idea what caused the sudden drop! I have had no issues holding humidity up to this point. I’m using the maticoopx.
Now my worry is, have the chicks that externally pipped surely shrink wrapped? As they pipped sometime overnight or early this morning I have no way to know if there has been progress since the drop. 😞😔

There's no way to know how the drop in humidity affected them, if at all. Just bump it up (which surely you already did) and wait and see. I doubt they'll shrink-wrap until they've been pipped with a largish opening for several hours AND the humidity is low.

If it's any comfort, too high humidity causes problems, too. I've just lost 4 chicks within a day of hatch (yesterday), and two more are struggling as I write - all due I think due to too high humidity. Those four were fully formed, yolk absorbed or almost, but there was a thick jelly-like layer inside the membrane. Wet and sticky,

The last two are still in the incubator, but the blood vessels just don't seem to want to dry up. The last chick (before these) hatched this morning - so it's been several hours now. I can't drop the humidity too much to help the last two dry out because that WILL shrink-wrap them. Can't win for losing.

If I had a choice, I'd rather help a shrink-wrapped chick to hatch than one that's too wet.

I'll have to go back to square one with my incubator and start testing all over again, with new hygrometers. Bummer.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about your chicks. That’s awful 😔

Thankfully so far 4 of the pipped chicks have hatched and there are actually 7 others that are pipped but haven’t zipped quite yet! I expect by my 4:15 alarm I will have a few more.
I’m so thankful I decided to invest in a better incubator before attempting another hatch. Not having to open the incubator except to candle once day 7 and to candle and remove the turners before lockdown was so great.

22 out of 25!!

We unfortunately had a 23rd that passed. By the time I told myself it was time to assist I was too late. I was unsure of the exact time of pip and could see a translucent membrane with a blood vessel looking line across and was nervous I would do harm if I attempted at that point.
A few hours later I noticed no progress and it had began unzipping previously so I decided to just remove the pieces already cracked but still in place. It was then that I saw it was definitely passed. When I removed the shell it looked perfect. Had absorbed everything so I feel guilty because if I had assisted sooner maybe it would have made it.

Two eggs are still in there (today is day 23) but there is no sign of a pip so this afternoon I’ll candle to be sure but I’m thinking maybe they passed as well like the other chick, just didn’t make it to the pip/zip part of it. 😔
Even with the sad loss of it was awesome what a difference this incubator has made for us in hatch rate.

It might have, but honestly @Tvan18, it probably would not have survived long or thrived well. Don't feel guilty. There is a good reason it did not hatch - maybe just not strong enough, nutritional deficiencies, internal issues, etc. The other 22 hatched just fine, didn't they? So it can't be anything you did or didn't do, or it would have hatched, too.

I almost always lose a few with every hatch. Of those I have assisted, only a handful of them have ever thrived as well as their flockmates. Most of them die anyway or have to be culled due to leg or neurological issues, in spite of every effort to help them bounce back.

I was lucky to be gifted a Kebonnixs incubator from my son and it's great, but holds only 12 eggs. I bought a bigger one from Incubator Warehouse, but I was still being CHEAP and of course, I'm having issues.
I should have just spent the bucks for a better one, like yours. I may still do that.
I was the same when I bought the Farm Innovators one. I didn’t know how well I’d do and how often I would do it so I was weary fo spend a lot but my husband gave me the push to just go for a better one. I’m so glad I did. I definitely would recommend it to you.
