day 21 and nothing

I'm trying to be patient. I have 8 silkie eggs and 3 Jersey Giant eggs that were due to hatch yesterday. 2 Jersey Giants that are due to hatch Monday. (all in the bator) And then I have 9 Silkie eggs in the brooder house with my broody hen. I had one Jersey Giant egg hatch Thursday night and he/she is a cutie, but lonely! I have the bator by the computer and a baby monitor in the brooder house. I am driving the whole family nuts!

The nine silkie eggs under my broody hen are due today, maybe she will have better results than I'm having. I have spent the last two weeks clearing for more coops and thus far I have one chick!!!!

If your bator has been running a little cool, even by a degree, it can delay your hatch by a couple of days. If you humidity is good, your temp is good, and you have candled in the past and knew your eggs were developing, then don't touch anything yet. The eggs could be pipping on the side you can't see or the little ones could be waiting until nightfall to hatch... they love to hatch in the middle of the night.

I would give until at least day 23 before I touched the bator, even going as far as to only add more humidity "water" with a straw. The waiting is the worst and the sitting on your hands seems almost impossible, I know.

It is possible that the bator was running a little below temp as when we upgraded hygrometers the new hygrometer indicated we were low. Let's hope for the best.

You can candle the eggs and see if the chicks have internally pipped the air cell. They will fill up that space and you will only see a full dark egg.

I found a couple pictures I thought might be interesting to share on another website when I was looking up candling.

This one is the air cell at 21 days:

and this one is a picture of a chic internally pipped:

I don't know if they always look like that when they are internally pipped. I am a total beginner but I thought they were interesting pics.

Well the hen in the brooder condo is hatching chicks. I'll check in the morning but saw one and heard others. Still nothing with the ones in the bator, they were due Friday. I still have two in there that aren't due to hatch until Monday, so I'll definately have to give it until then before I can give up on these. I may have to stick with broody hens in the future, this incubator adventure is turning into a nightmare!
