day 21 no pipping!

I've been reading everything I can. We had one chick hatch out last night. One other egg was peeping quite a bit and rocking, but no pips. I haven't notice any movement or peeps since this morning around 9. Should I still wait? I'm not sure of the hatch date. They were under a hen for about 2 1/2 weeks.

Your temperature is obviously low. There's not much you can do for this batch but you need to get the temp fixed. A chicken should be finished hatching on day 21 if they don't you have temp issue.

The thermometer has stayed steady at 99.5. Should I have kept it higher since it has been so hot outside? It's been 100+ for weeks. The one hatched, but it had already pipped before I put them in the incubator. I think that today will be Day 21.

Not sure if I would agree 100% on this because there are several members on here who use broodies, and even then, it often goes beyond day 21.

I do have a good update. I decided that since it had been so hot outside for the time that they were under the broody that maybe dropping it down to the 'preferred' temp of 99.5 shocked them. So I turned up the temp to where it was reading 101. Since it's got a +/- 2 deg range I felt like that would be within reason for it to be to cool. Within a few hours I started to hear peeping from another egg and it hatched the next morning. I don't know if that was a coincidence or it was a temp issue. I will calibrate the thermometer after we empty the incubator in a few days.

I'm so glad we got a friend for our first chick. It was so lonely. We candled the rest of the eggs and eliminated two that hadn't developed. We ended up with four maybes and one that I could still see movement. So far, nothing out of that one yet. I think I'll candle again in the morning.

I'm on day 21 today and so far nothing has happened so I'm still checking the eggs every hour

Feel somewhat better after reading the responses here...

Just starting day 23 for our 8 remaining eggs. Checking the bator constantly for pips...haven't seen or heard anything, but could've missed movements or chirping.

Temp and humidity seem fine.

First time trying to hatch...how much longer do we wait before giving up?

Don't feel bad guys, I'm on day 27 with one pipped and the other 3 moving and thinking about pipping. Though I already have holes in the shells from when I was thinking about tossing them on day 24.

First time this has ever happened to me! Going digital... I was too trusting of the thermometer that came with the 'bator. Calibrated it a long time ago and haven't checked it.

Now I have REALLY late chicks. I hope they're normal! And I thought day 21 pips were nerve racking!

Whoa! 27 days?

Feel a bit better now.

I've seen two eggs that have shown definite signs of moving around; we'll just have to be patient, I reckon.

Those chicks are just too dang comfy in their shells!

***UPDATE***

Three hatches on day 24. Chicks doing fine 16 hours later.

One more pipped egg this morning, and two or three moving around.

Patience is indeed a virtue!

LOL, just as I was reading this.....my second egg has pipped! I actually heard a cracking sound! Went over to the bator to see if the one that pipped last night was zipping and then I see an even bigger pip on one of the other eggs. I thought I heard two chirps around midnight last night but didn't want to get my hopes up!

I'm with you, I'm still worried I'm doing something wrong and will feel tons better when at least ONE is out and alive and well. I can't believe what relief I felt when I heard that first chirp!

Good luck! Sounds like we both will get at least something!
