Day 21....worry, worry *Pics added* What breed?

I am so nervous for the two little ones that have been pipped for so long with no progress. The membrane that is exposed is very white and dry looking. Should I place them on a damp paper towel to moisten them? I read that somewhere in here.

The humidity may not be high enough. I can't tell because all I have is a regular thermometer. They are just in the styro still air hovabator and I have the two wells filled with water but I read that they dont hold moisture too well. Also while I was at work tonight my husband and daughter opened the lid a few times. Grrrr!

Any suggestions?

Couldnt stand to refresh the page one more time, lol.

Decided to dampen two sponges with warm water and super speedy put them into the incubator. Hold that helps them. Still see some movement, though not a whole lot.

It's 12:16 in the morning and I am making macaroni and cheese. I am never gonna be able to sleep tonight! Gah!!

Donna I have a few suggestions! Ok well I have used 2 things to make humidity higher in my LG. Clean sponges soaked in warm water on the side of the bator and sometimes I will get a clean sock and put it in a ball and dip the whole thing in warm water and place it in the incubator. I don't really like any standing water in the bator as it could fall on a chick.
So just my 2 cents. Anyone else can chip in too!

Placed two wet sponges in the incubator sometime after midnight last night. I passed out somewhere around 1 am this morning right after eating that mac and cheese. lol

When I woke up at 6 this morning we had one more baby chick! Yay!

I still have one more sitting in the egg with a large pip hole. I can still see it moving. I wish I didn't have to go to work in an hour

Today is Day 23 and I still have 9 more eggs in there with nothing happening. Is there any chance the others could still hatch??

Well thanks to all of you and all the great information I now have three babies!

The one whose beak was stuck made it out sometime between 1am when I fell asleep and 6 am this morning when I woke up.

The other one I checked on before I left for work one more time and he had been getting quieter and quiter over time. He had pipped nearly 24 hours ago but had made no progress. I decided to go in a half hour late and I carefully used a blunt tweezer to create a zip for him. I used a q-tip and some warm water to moisten up the membrane and I dampened a paper towel with warm water and gently and loosely wrapped it around the under side of the egg to help keep the membrane moist...then I said a little prayer and went to work.

I had my oldest daughter stop home from school to check on them and the baby in the egg was still alive and still inside the egg.

I just rushed home from work and went straight to the bator and he is out of the egg and fumbling around. I must have just missed his grand entrance into the world.

Now we have one in the box all dry and calling like crazy for his friends to join him. The second one is dry but I am leaving him in the incubator to keep little number three company for a bit.

Is there any chance the other nine may hatch yet??? I am on Day 23...what do you think? What is the latest I should wait for the rest?

I am going to take pics and try to post them this evening. Thank you all for the encouragement and information.

I took out the two that were born today and put them in the box with the first one. A little trouble there but I posted about that in the "Raising Baby Chicks" forum.

After I took the last two out I placed the remaining eggs back in the center of the incubator neatly and noticed one had a small chip in the side. I decided to open up the shell a little tiny bit and I suddenly heard a little peep coming from inside and saw a beak pressing on the white membrane in the opening I had made. I made a little more of a zip for it but soon into it I accidently caused a little droplet of blood. That scared me to death and I used a q-tip to apply slight pressure and the bleeding stopped. But after causing bleeding I knew I had to stop right there.

I wrapped the egg loosely with a warm, damp paper towel and put the egg back in the bator. I checked again and there is no further bleeding and the beak is through the opening. There is not much movement though and only cheeped once more since then. Today is Day 23 and I am afraid this one doesnt have much time. I can see what looks to be his eye but the white membrane looks stuck to it so I didn't go near there. I moistened what I could with a qtip dipped in warm water a little while ago and put it back in the incubator again.

Should I just leave him overnight or do you think he needs help at this late stage? I hate to think I am doing nothing when he needs help!

I checked the fourth chick in the incubator before I went to sleep at about 1 am and he was cheeping. I thought for sure we were going to have a new baby this morning but sadly when I got up at 6am and checked him he had died.

I should have helped him out last night. I feel awful.

On the brighter side I have three happy chicks who seem to be getting along with each other a little better. I am happy to have them but I know I am going to feel terrible about that fourth one for a while.
