Day 22, no external pip - should I help?

I really need some input from all of you experienced hatchers out there. I've assisted many chicks with external pips, but never one who did not. I'm on day 22, chick is peeping, I can hear it working away in there & looks like it has pipped into the air cell. No progress since this morning. I'm afraid it will die if I don't do something - actually I know it will die if it can't get the egg pipped. Has anyone helped a chick in this situation? If so, what can I expect if I break the shell? Please anyone who can help please post.

i say help the little guy, but start at the base of the air cell, i have had success doing that before, check your pm's and good luck!
