Ok, I gave my buddy about 30 eggs. He says he is on day 22 and none have hatched. I am curious as to why.

He said he did open one and it was fully developed. Could it be lack of humidity?

I'm no expert but sometimes they take a little longer. What's the humidity at? And is it still or forced air? (:

What type of quail are you talking about? Humidity and temperature can play a huge role in delay. Was the chick still alive in the egg when your friend opened it?

coturnix, and he said it wasn't alive.

Unfortunately I think it's an incubator mishap of some kind. Coturnix should hatch around 17 days. I leave them in until 19 days, after that they are tossed and a new batch is set in the bator.

I would ask your friend what the temp was at and humidity. And try again.

The cot eggs I set were "old" which I assume is not the case here if the eggs came from you. ETA: if the were fully developed but dead, that sounds like a humidity problem to me.
