Day 22 no pips or peeps

Another one hatched a d one of the two pipped last night. I'm gonna wait for the last egg but it might be a quitter. 4 out of 5 isnt bad but even just one would've been fine

I opened the other egg that hasn't pipped yet and found a chick with a severely deformed beak and skull. Its yolk sac was unabsorbed and it had part of its intestines out. But on the bright side the other egg is hatching right now

Some more cute baby pics but while we are on the subject of these does anyone know what breed they could be

Well...one is certainly - duck - lol. They are all sweet whatever breed they may be. So sorry to hear about the one not destined for this world.

Whoops! Were the ducks part of this batch? The little black chick with yellow points looks pretty much like black Australorp chicks do at hatching..and the yellow chick with heart looks much like my Austra White did at hatching..Black Australorp x white Leghorn.

Yes the ducks are pekin ducks and thanks for suggesting what these "mutts" might be. The last one got shrink wrap and I had to help it and for the longest time I thought he wasn't gonna make it but he is turning out to be my first successful assisted hatch

Do you know what this cutie could be (this is the one that was shrink-wrapped) I was think Brown Leghorn or welsummer

So good to hear, it's really encouraging to hear success stories in assists - so many people are scared off by all the horror stories of chicks bleeding out or too early interventions on premature chicks. Getting a chick out of shrink wrap is far more rewarding than finding you left it too long and it died from lack of air or exhaustion. It's so good to see your brood and know they are all doing well. Congratulations!
