First time incubating I had 10 eggs and on day 21 (18th Sept) I had one egg hatch but no sign from others. Last night I candled the remaining eggs (unsure if I was wrong to do this) but found that 4 out 9 were no good. The remaining 5 looked full, one I seen movement but no internal pip.

How much longer should I leave them? I’ve read to put hole in air pocket to help them, is this right? Just looking for advice with being first time.

I've hatched over 500 silkies this year, and never put a hole in any of them. Not saying that doesn't work in some instances though, just I've never found the need.

If your temp has been a steady 99.5°F, and humidity is around 65-70%, then they should hatch on their own.

I suspect the temperature is off if you're seeing movement, but it's two days behind the first one.

Do you have a separate hygrometer/thermometer to check the settings on your incubator?

I haven’t, I was very trusting with the new incubator which I think was huge mistake on my behalf. Definitely learning alot for next time!

That's how we learn. You'll do better next time, but hope you get a few more out of these!

Hoping a few more chicks hatched by now.I see that you already have a nice hen.You will have to separate them.Update?
Well unfortunately out my 10 eggs only 1 hatched 😔 I left till day 26 and I did do eggtopsy. Looked like 2 more fully formed but they weren’t breathing or moving when I did eggtopsy.

Others looked like they hadn’t fully formed which is huge shame.

I did receive 5 chicks off a friend and then bought couple more so this one wouldn’t be on its own. Just need to wait till they grow so I can see what sex they are.we have good variety now

Awwwwh they're so cute! I'm glad you were able to get some more chicks so it wouldn't be alone and you still have a nice flock! I'm not sure what went wrong but it gets easier as time goes on.You didn't mention where you got your eggs.Could there have been something wrong with them?I'm sorry you had a bad hatch

I was given them from my allotment neighbour as he’d given them to me to give me a good start. I’ve learnt a lot from what others have said on this so hopefully next time will be more successful but least I’ve got these for now. Once I know how many are hens I’ll give it another go. Just got to wait for these to grow abit so I can figure out the sex.

I’ve tried doing the wing sexing on them, if I’ve done it right there only one cockerel. I have seen about vent sexing but i noticed it says if not done right can hurt them so i dont want to try that incase i do something wrong x
