Hi i incubated four eggs, one was lost early on leaving three that developed fine. On day 20 one hatched but its now day 23 and the other two havent. Ive candled them and i can still see veins and the air cell is in tact but i cant tell if they are moving as its too dark in the egg. Ive left them in the incubator. There is no smell or any indication that they have died apart from obviously not hatching. What do i do? They have some very thick shells so im worried they cant pip but from what i can see they havent pipped internally yet. How long should i leave them before calling it quits? Is there anything i can do to help? TIA

Did you have a pre-calibrated thermometer in your incubator? Did you move the eggs around to different spots in your incubator to avoid hot/cold spots?

Yes i had the incubator running for a couple hours before putting the eggs in, it has an automatic egg turner that rotates them every 120 mins (i took that out on day 18 as instructed) so they were only in the same place for the last few days.

Not the incubator thermometer, but a separate one that was calibrated by you before putting it in? When I say move around I do not mean the egg turner rotating them. I mean actually manually moving them to different locations in the incubator. Incubators will have hot and cold spots. Eggs need to be manually moved to different spots even with an auto turner you still have to move them around by hand to different spots. Otherwise you will end up with eggs that hatch at different times.

I used a normal thermometer to check the temp before putting them in to make sure the bator thermometer worked properly if thats what you meant? And the turner didnt just rotate them it also moved them around it in a circle but whenever i candled them (usually once a day, sometimes twice if needed) i put them back in a different place

That is what happened then. You need to have a different thermometer in there during the entire incubation process that you calibrated prior. Even if it initially appears to be correct unless you have a thermometer that you calibrated yourself in there during the whole process the incubator readings are often wrong. Thermometers are very fickle and need to be recalibrated regularly. Even a one degree difference can cause different eggs to hatch at different times.
