Day 26 HELP!

LADIES you are so helpful so here is another question.... I have a heating plate not a heatlamp..... I have had to put it on a slant because it sounds like the older duckling are already struggling to get out from under it.... or maybe it's just they can't get traction because they are just on the Rubbermaid bottom because they move the bedding away..... do you think this is ok ... how can I tell they are cold... I have read that they could get stuck or maybe the plated isn't warm enough.....one set is just 24 hours old the other 48....

Thanks

I haven’t ever used a heat plate so I can’t really help you with that but I did have a suggestion about helping with traction. I use the peep pad in my brooders and for the first few days it’s pretty slippery for them so I put in an old dish cloth or kitchen towel to give them some traction. They only need the towel for a couple days until they “get their sea legs” or whatever you wanna call it.

I lowered it down again bc I think a few were cold? Is this enough room?

I actually always set mine at an angle so they can decide how much heat they need since heat plates heat through contact. Some just like to sit under the taller edge some like to snuggle up close to the plate in the back.

I did that for a while today and they all went to the lower end that's why I dropped it.... I think it was a traction problem not a getting stuck problem.... thank you to the girl.who suggested a tea towel !!

Hello Everyone,

So far everything is fine! One set is 7 days old! The other set is 6 days! I have another question ... I bought the red water jug for the ducks .. I have to fill it about 4 times a day and thier brooder is soaked!!!! So I bought this cat watering dish .... my question is would this be dangerous for the ducks now that they can get into it??? I am hoping to reduce how much water is being split..... Thanks!!

They will for sure get into it! You’ll have a big ol mess! I would put a big rock or something similar in side the bowl part so they can’t actually get into the water but will still have water to drink. Does that make sense?
