I don't have anything to add about the pipping since I'm one that doesn't open during lockdown, but I would suggest that you not use a bath towel on the floor the next time you hatch. That can really mess with your airflow and humidity. If you really want something over the floor, I would suggest kitchen shelf liner since it has holes. I hope your ducks come out well

Oh gosh! Good to know! I’m going to try again with a new batch and use everyone’s suggestions. I only added it (damp) when I went into lockdown to keep the humidity up.

You can add sponges (new, clean) into the wells for added humidity.
Air flow is very important, it needs to be able to come up through the bottom vents and pull over/across the water, up through the floor, then out the top.

We made it to our vacation home for the weekend after a 6 hour drive with an incubator and have an active baby duck who has internally pipped (I think) I believe it happened last night and she just made progress today. Can someone confirm for me? (Video below)
How long can it safely stay internally pipped without needing a safety hole??

And I could see her little beak opening and closing but didn’t get that on video.

They can go for 24 hours once they're internally pipped So if they haven't externally pipped by the time 24 hours rolls around, that's when I do a safety hole.

Well I woke up and there wasn’t a ton of movement and she still hadn’t externally pipped so I went ahead and did a tiny safety hole. As soon as I did she perked right up and started moving again. Day 28- here’s to hoping!
