Hi and welcome to BYCHi I'm a new duck hatcher so I have a 26 17ish day old duck eggs I looked yesterday and saw veins and it was very dark I couldn't see any movement from the egg or anything. IS that supposed to be like that? I looked for movement but I literally cant see any movement and am very worried as I have already lost 3 duck eggs due to the weather and cracks.PLEASE TELL ME IF THIS IS OKAY
I'm letting my broody hen do it because the duck went broody for like a week then quit and stopped laying on them so I had to put them in the pen that my broody hen is in
Okay should I check it everyday to see if the egg hatches and if it does should I take the baby duck out of the chicken pen since it is not a chicken baby?Hello Emily, and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Good luck to you and the broody hen on the hatch. At this point, I would leave her and the eggs alone and let her do her thing.
Leave the ducklings with her and let them all hatch. She will start to raise them and they will imprint on her. It's a tricky situation when a chicken hen hatches and raises ducklings but it can work. I would ask this type of question in the duck forum.Okay should I check it everyday to see if the egg hatches and if it does should I take the baby duck out of the chicken pen since it is not a chicken baby?
Well I have them in a pen with 7 chickens and two chickens take turns laying on them should I leave them with ALL 7 chickens?Leave the ducklings with her and let them all hatch. Having 2 hens take turns setting the eggs is unusual and could ultimately end badly.Well I have them in a pen with 7 chickens and two chickens take turns laying on them should I leave them with ALL 7 chickens?
