Day 56 and don't know what to do or think????

He sang during the evening. He sang before bed. My anxiety has made me wake up 23485695 times. He sang all those times. It's nearly 3am... the singing is hardly there. It sounds like he is either getting laryngitis or he isn't going to make the hatch. I peeked in, there was quite a bit of blood over on one side. Some blood around his neck. He obv was able to push and wiggle his way out a lot. He just isn't going to make it. I touched him and his tweet was so low I could hardly hear it. I touched him and instead of wiggling, he just lay there.

I killed the emu I so desperately wanted more than coffee.

Well, did I actually kill him, no, I helped him and saw blood when I opened the air sac. And from what I have read, blood isn't a good thing. And turns out... it wasn't. He did put up quite a struggle making his way into the world, so I know he had it in him, just not quite enough.

All I can do is hope he is just in a VERY deep sleep from all the work and he will be ready to see me in the morning all fluffy and loving......

How is it this morning? You haven't done anything wrong.... if he's not making it, it's just because he was not able. Sometimes when my chicks hatch there is blood, so don't dispare yet. Also my emu did not sing that much at all. They are very tired from all that hard work. They do not walk for a few days, nor need food for 2-3 days. You do need to show them how to eat. Fingers crossed for you.....

I don't know what I am going to do in 50 days when mine are ready to hatch, I'll already be a wreck just from being 7 months prego!

I don't know if the humididy dropping to 48% over the night did it? Or if he was just not meant to be? Now there is a huge hole in my heart where he was. I cried like a freaking baby over it. Yes, I will admit. Now I need to spend the morning sewing, picking up myself and putting myself together, and start looking for more emu eggs somewhere..... I think I need to hatch more than 1 this time.

Now... where to find more emu eggs... that's going to be the fun one. Anyone has suggestions on where to find reliable sellers? Ebay scares me.

I am sorry, I was really watching this thread and hoping for the best as so many others were.

So sorry........ I'll let you know if mine lay again. In my hova bator I kept the temps at 96-97.6 and the humidity at 33-39 all the way until pipping the shell, then I moved it to my cabinet with the chicks at 50-55 humidity.

I did approx the same. My humidity was an issue if you remember, but I kept it about 35% the whole time. I saturated every towel I own to get the humidity up to 55% for hatch. He just wasn't meant to be.... I have had a lot of chickens go through this (including my very expensive silkies from one of the top breeders).

It just heart breaking. When I told me daughter, she cried. My son is currently in a mental health facility and it will break his heart. We put the egg in the day he left for the hospital. He asks non-stop when his Edward will hatch. I'm afraid to tell him while he is in the hospital for fear of him going nuts (like usual) and hurting himself (yea, he's only 7 and has some pretty serious diagnosis).

Anyhow, my Mentor, if you do happen to have any lay, I would love to buy from you. There is another member who contacted me and has a couple to sell. I'm going to purchase. I think I need to keep my egg stock up, so if I get 50% to hatch I can at least have one or two......

My heart hurts so much for my daughter. She is 9 and she LOVES emus as much as I do. Emu and Alpaca... MUST HAVE TO LIVE A HAPPY LIFE!!!!

Wonder if you can find chicks locally, they are not cheap, but if it would save your son from danger, it may be worth it. He doesn't have to know it's not from the egg you had. put an ad on Craigslist.
