This is the short story of Gimpy Girl. On Day 7 I could not help but notice that one Leghorn Chick was remaining in the 'nesting' position a lot. When she tried to stand it seemed that her right leg would falter and she would 'fall down' to rest.

As we all now know that appears to be neurological and muscular related given her examination revealed no obvious injuries and the rest of the flock was very healthy. By all accounts I had to 'assume' that she was slow getting out of her shell and therefore deprived of breathing critical atmosphere when Mother Nature intended. Slight brain damage and subsequent damage...

Dug into what everyone had to say about it on Back Yard Chickens and concluded I had 2 choices.

1. Cull the Chick.

2. Isolate the Chick with her own food and water and bedding and give her a chance to develop without all the other chicks pecking at her and making any recovery chance futile. For how long? No idea. Start treating her for an unknown problem? No. Sometimes I think we all just need to step back and give nature a chance to heal that which obviously needs healing. Nutrition and Rest...

Decision... Life. I made her accommodations, isolated her, held her and stroked her for 3 Days. She always seemed to chirp and peep and stand up crooked and kinky for me when it came time to tend to her. I admire that...

On Day 10, yesterday morning, she seemed to be standing more to eat and drink and move around. I moved her back in with her peeps and as of sunrise this morning I still have 12 for 12. However, she does walk a little bit kinky and yet she appears to be unpecked and intact.

She also walks into my palm when I put it down in the coop bedding... Is this what everyone means about having a 'Pet Chicken'?
