Day-ja-voo all over again

Last year I had my broody Cochin Morgan sit on a dozen eggs and none hatched. This summer, I have had my SS Linda, who went broody for the third time by the time she was nine months old, sit on five eggs produced by my Buff Brahma Joycie, and the roo Penrod.

It's now day 22 and she's still sitting on five un-hatched eggs.

I'm at a loss. These were very fresh, fertilized eggs, and Linda has been a faithful and focused egg sitter, so why wouldn't they hatch?

Are you sure that they were fertile? Did you candle them and see developmet. It is possible that your rooster might be sterile.

I was wondering if you candled the eggs also. I don't when I am setting eggs under a broody hen as I don't like to disturb her. I would wait another couple of days in case they are just slow in hatching. If you didn't candle the eggs, I would then crack them open to see if there was any development at all. If not, you know your rooster is the problem.

Wrap-up: Yes, I verified my rooster is fertile. At the beginning, there were six eggs. Clumsy me accidentally broke one. I looked for the white bulls-eye, and there it was, plain as a USDA stamp on the yolk.

I just got through candling all the eggs. Nothing but light, through and through. I broke them all open. Just runny whites and yolks - no sign of development after all these weeks.
