I just candled two day nine eggs that had thus far been developing well and at good speed. I candled at day nine and I was surprised to see a very, very dark egg. I could see veins, I believe, but just a few. Is this normal or did my eggs die?

There is a massively long thread about candling eggs and what you should see during the cycle. The poster has really good pics and it should answer your questions nicely. I think you have a dud though. Does it smell yet? If not then leave it go for a bit. But always keep an eye on it.
