Hi everyone. Our broody hen hatched out 7 chicks out of 8 eggs today in a flower pot. I moved them all to a secure pen, and put down some pine shavings on the dirt. They all were doing fine, until a few minutes ago. I just went to check on them, and noticed one of the babies was gasping for air. I dipped its beak in water, and tried to massage any food down its throat that might have been stuck there. It seemed to make it worse rather than better.
It is pretty breezy today, and only about 90F instead of the usual 105F. They are eating flock raiser, and have a small chick waterer. I don't know what could be causing this, and I feel so bad for the little guy. Usually my broody babies are always the healthiest! I am thinking it maybe aspirated water when I dipped it's beak (I really hope not though), has an odd respiratory infection, or possibly ate some bedding or something else it wasn't supposed to. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, and how to fix it? Thank you so much, ahead of time!
