help! i have a day old chick who is making a clicking sound when it breathes and is very lethargic, the others are doing well... any advice??!

Sorry to hear about your chick. How old is day old for real? Out of your incubator of from the feed store/hatchery? Have they had access to water already?

If they HAVE had access to water... it might have dipped it's beak to deep and inhaled some water. I NEVER have good results with a chick that got water in their lungs as it makes breathing difficult. And sounds a bit like crackling. They usually fail within a few days.

If it's truly a day old and hasn't accessed any water, that suggestion may be irrelevant. Also, sometimes the ones who were born even a couple hours later can be much weaker than others. Sleepy is very normal for new hatchlings. But lethargy, you already know isn't... and it sounds like you might recognize it as being lethargy for real in this babe..

Only thing I do is offer poultry nutri drench and homemade electrolytes in my water for the first container they drink.

Hopefully it isn't fluid on the lungs... but accidents do happen.

One other question... where did they come from?
