and they keep putting their head into their wings and then rip their fur or hair what ever it is out,

you can see the tip of a feather popping out and they are only 48 hours old! is this ok for them to be ripping out their fur or hair off their wings?

No it's not okay, at least I've never seen it happen.

Have they got water and food? Are they on clean bedding...no bugs? Have they got a way to get out from under the heat lamp? What color lamp do you have on them? Give us more info and we'll see what we can do to help you.

They have Water and Food 24/7 whenever they need it! Very clean bedding, no bugs I can promise that! they have lots of room from the heat lamp! and a White light for our lamp not red, could it also be maybe they are still stressed a bit!

I'm wondering here, if you should try a red lamp.
I've heard that they 'can' pick at each other with a white lamp and maybe pick on themselves as in your case.

I've only had red lamps and never had any chicks pick on each other or themselves...I really hope that it works (if you try it

When chicks preen chick fuzz and the white stuff that covers the new feathers (no idea what it's called...), will fall out if it is ready to. Are they definitely pulling it out, or is it just falling out when they preen?

My chicks were forever getting feathers and fuzz stuck in their beaks after preening, and i had to pick it out for them. Are they actually grabbing hold of their feathers and yanking them off? Is there any redness or soreness?

I've never heard of chicks ripping out their fuzz before..

Well now that you say it it is falling out when they preen because they are learning how to jump and i see some fall out once in a while. no redness or soreness, so maybe just started to fall out, they aren't preening as much as they did yesterday so maybe stress or growing pains, but i will still watch out for redness and soreness and I will definetly try a red light!

Thanks so much, I am glad this forum was created
