day old- dislocated knee/ankle -foot purple

Ive bound its leg with vet tape. The ankle joint has a red spot on the back, like blood. I can wiggle it gently and it pops over a tendon or something like its out of place. I have popped it into place (I think) and bound firmly but not tightly with vet tape. Chick is almost 24 hrs old.
It lists to one side, very active, cant get it to just sleep and chill out.
Its bad foot is purple- too much blood or lack of it? what else can I do?

Where did you get the chick? I would remove the tape or wrap, since it may be too tight and cutting off circulation. The chick appears to have a possible slipped tendon or leg bone deformity, and either one is almost never treatable. Sometimes chicks with these problems may get along with a little extra attention, but they need to be able to eat on their own. Culling the chick would be an option if it is not able to walk. the chick is mine, it hatched yesterday. ok thanks for the article
