Day old duck pecked by hen

Ok it is my fault. I have a single duck that was a day old. I put her with my broody hen at night. She accepted it , I thought and the next morning everyone was happy . When I went out the second time to check on them the duck was missing. It couldn’t have went any where it was in a closed in area. So I went looking for it and found it in the hay it’s little head is pecked and it would just flop around. I thought I would just hold it till it died. Well It seemed to get better, it can control its head but when it wants to walk it rates up and can’t. (Please know I am new a this and I have beat myself up) I am assuming just keeping it warm and quiet is all I can do.

Don't beat yourself up, its all about making mistakes and learning. As you said, keep it warm and quiet with constant access to water (which isn't deep just in case). For the open wounds i personally use an antiseptic cream to keep it clean, or you can use pet safe disinfectant with warm water to the correct dilution and regularly clean the wound. However, there's not a lot you can do for the potential shock its gone through. Hope it pulls through.

They baby is doing well. He can walk now. Is still a little disoriented but doing well. I am a little concerned with its eye but God brought us this far. I pray a lot for my animals.

I think he may be blind. And the other duck pecks at his wounds. I have separated them in their box so the can hear each other, and I get them out together. He is energetic but doesn’t eat. He will drink a little.

Sad to hear about the disability but animals have an amazing ability to adapt in the long run. Continue to offer water and maybe some tasty food, potentially some oats soaked or rice (Only to get it going, not a staple diet). Keep his movement restricted till he is stronger. Will send up a little prayer for him

When I hold him he wants to run on me, so physically he seems strong. He poops so he must be eating. But his little peep is so quiet. Do you think his second eye lid would close if it couldn’t see?
