It is extremely cold here at times, so I figured the little bantams are out of the question... or I would get a few small ones too just for their size difference!

I have to be honest that the fancy type birds don't really appeal to me so I passed on the mostly ornamental types(creasted). NO OFFENSE intended if that's your thing or choice of bird.

I debated on the Brahmas(but don't want feathered feet). I wanted Chanteclers but they only offered straight runs, so I passed.

Spring can't come soon enough for me and I still have two full months of winter left! It will snow here until April then rain every other day or so for another two months!

Why don't you go ahead and order the Chantaclers? Hopefully you will get some females, and frankly, you will find that 68 is a LOT of chickens for that size coop when next winter rolls around and they won't go outside for days or weeks on end. When that time comes, if you still have more than about 30, I would figure out a way to keep snow off the ground in a yard or pen or whatever, so they will get out some. Well, I'd recommend that anyway, just to get them out some. And I'm not suggesting you close them in, only that they won't be likely to want to walk on snow.

Well I added some more birds to my order... BIG SURPRISE EH?

I have thought more about coop size and talked to my wife about perhaps building a totally new building... I would use the old one( in the picture a few post back) as kind of a temporary coop for them just for the summer. Maybe it could be like a brooder coop for future use too???

We have thought about building a new garage anyway up by the house for my wife to park... so basically I'd just build bigger one and divide in half so my wife has one side for her van and the other side is for chickens?

Would be nice to start from "scratch" build it exactly the way I want it opposed to repairing and retro-fitting something old.

Something 24x32 will run a fair bit of coin with a cement pad/hydro etc... but it would add value to the property as well.

I have a 30x24 garage already and built a dog kennel off the back side...it's great and we could really use another!

Wow beautiful home and great choice of chicks. Once they start laying maybe you can barter eggs for honey!
