Hey Everyone don't really have time to search the forums for an answer cause I think I am going to loose 3 of my new chicks very soon. But even if I loose these 2 I want to make sure this is not something to affect the others I have.

The chicks are 2 days old Cornish Cross. They were hatched yesterday.

They are exhibiting the following behavior:
laying on their sides, seeming to be gasping slowly, Wings stretched out and very stiff in their bodies. They also seem very cold.

No signs of trauma, other than it was really hot yesterday, in the 90s, and they were panting a bit in the car on the way home.

I got them home, put them in the brooder, dipped beaks in water and gave them some chick starter. The others are drinking and eating so I assume that these 2 did as well. They were not handled rough at all.

No noticeable issues with their stool and no treatment has been given yet.

I will be treating them myself as I can't see taking day olds to the vet. I have plenty of experiance treating everything but chickens though.

They are in a old wire-floor brooder. 4 weeks ago I raised 15 with no losses.

Please Help and Thanks.

Sadly, sometimes chicks die after they hatch.
If it was my chick, I would move it closer to the heat, and just dip my finger in some water with vitamins and a little bit of sugar and just lightly touch it to their beak. If they drink, give them a little more and keep them warm. If you are not sure if it is a disease and have room to separate them, I would do that and keep an eye on them. There's not much else you can do at this point.

Perhaps someone else will have more input...:aww

I put another lamp in there before I wrote this and moved some of the colder ones closer to it.

While so far the official loss is 2 chicks. The other critical one is up and running, a little droopy but it took me a minute to identify it. Which is good.

I also changed the water from straight electrolytes to a sugar/electrolyte mix and now the rest of the chicks are like superchicks! Running around like crazy.

Hopefully all will be well. I think the brooder runs a little cold for day olds.
