Greetings group I've not posted since the forum moved, good to read about hatching
. I am on day 8. I candled my 15 eggs 3 are good nice veins and about 4 are ee too dark to see so hoping the are good the rest I believe are not fertile.
Disappointed that none of the 3 cochins are fertile they would have been the only pure birds, the rest are mutts
. One of my birds is an ee x polish she's a pretty and nice bird her egg is developing if the father is the bantam cochin she lives with that will be quite the ix.
My other roo is a Spitenhauzen sp? One of my polish eggs is developing and he would be the father another fab mix.
The spitz is also probably the father of the ee eggs. Oh well I'd be happy with 5. If a hen goes broody later I may let her hatch a few. I just agreed to take the chicks from a school hatching (May 1) and ordered 30ish birds from Ideal to arrive late June. 12 are meat birds so the rest are supposed to be assorted hens and a few sr bantams.
My original flock is aging and Ive lost a few to age and unfortunetly about 6 to predators so time to get some more, can't have unfulled coops (yes coops).
Beth in Massachusetts who isn't going to candle for a few days
