Dazed and confused in Indiana

Thanks for the input! Now if I can figure out how to reply without it quoting everything!
I think I'd prefer a little variety and looking for good temperament. We have good neighbors, just not many! Though nearest one is hoping to live vicariously thru my flock and accept eggs in return for tending them in our absence.
Our daughter has a new flock of RI reds and they seem to be fairly pleasant birds. I like the look of the Buffs as well.
I'll make sure to check out the Indiana folks!

The thing about swap meets and auctions is sellers are here today, gone tomorrow. Buy in haste, repent in leisure. Some sellers will misrepresent their birds. You want pullets, - they just happen to have a few. If you said you wanted cockerels, now its males they are selling. You also have to beware of getting hens alot older than represented etc.

Much better to buy from a breeder that takes good care of their birds and knows the parentage and true breed of them. Just my 2 cents but, as a greeter here for years,
heard about all the the purchases that aren't what they were supposed to be.

No need to feel dazed and confused.

Keeping chickens is easy...

Start with healthy young adult birds
Chicken layer feed
Clean Water
Predator proof coop of appropriate size (with a roost)
Keep them clean and dry and sheltered from the elements.
Some vegetables for added vitamins in the diet.

Thanks all you need to do.

After you have them settled in you can start researching and add different things as you like... but if you have all the above then they will do very well.
