Dazed and confused in Indiana

I mean, if it's variety you want, why not bantams? And you could do a dozen or more vs the six standard size hens and then get all those cute tiny eggs. Heck, get two dozen of them! Because chicken math. :lau

Sorry, you sound like me when I was getting started. The original goal was to get four to six buff or lavender Orpingtons, maybe a black copper Maran or two, and I ended up leaving with a box packed full of banties. And then went back for seconds.

Welcome to BYC, where you will never, ever be encouraged to get more chickens, promise. ;)
 
Well we're very close to having the coop completed. I've found someone within about 70 miles who has some 4-5 month old Black Jersey Giants and Blue Andalusians. Any experience or opinions on those breeds for temperament and egg production?
