I mean, if it's variety you want, why not bantams? And you could do a dozen or more vs the six standard size hens and then get all those cute tiny eggs. Heck, get two dozen of them! Because chicken math.

Sorry, you sound like me when I was getting started. The original goal was to get four to six buff or lavender Orpingtons, maybe a black copper Maran or two, and I ended up leaving with a box packed full of banties. And then went back for seconds.

Well we're very close to having the coop completed. I've found someone within about 70 miles who has some 4-5 month old Black Jersey Giants and Blue Andalusians. Any experience or opinions on those breeds for temperament and egg production?
