Dduell2's Chicken Journey

And is there a plan if Delta is a Dennis the menace
Unfortunately not really... lol. My wife doesn't want to have to give up her baby, but we are not allowed roosters.

I say we keep it "quiet" as much as possible and go from there... lol
I don't want to get rid of him either

I really don't have a plan, no. Try to rehome him I guess

I guess I'd say the chicks are 2 weeks old now!

It's so hard to get them to stay still for pictures now!!🤣🤣🤣 When they hear us get up or come around they all start chirping to get out of the brooder and for attention.
As soon as we take the lid off the stretch jump/fly out!

Currently i have turned off the brooder plate with the heat wave we are having. We left it in the brooder so they can huddle under it together if it makes them feel more comfortable, but while it was on, even at its tallest height, it was too hot in there for them

"Charlie" the black Olive Egger
Shes getting some brown in her feathers.

"Delta" the Black Austraplorp that has a little worried about being male...

"Echo" the other Black Austraplorp wouldn't hold still for a good alone picture. She's the more timid/unsure baby.

They all love to wander around the living room, roost on my wife's shoulders, and sit in her lap

If anyone has any ideas on whether "Delta" is male or female, I'm all ears. That comb coming in is worrisome. I feel like we are lost til it decides to crow..

Thanks for looking again!

Til next time...

Nice job on the build. I just finished reading your coop build thread, and headed here for the chick thread.

Delta's comb looks like a cockerel's, though I'm no expert.

You should check out the Michigan thread, I'll add a link for you:

Thank you! Literally working on the outside run as we speak!

I definitely have to agree Delta's comb looks like a cockerel's! The last 2 nights id have to say it displayed signs of being one as well. Idk what to about it at this point. The nature lover and wanna be farmer in me is excited about the idea of baby chicks in the future, but we are not allowed roosters. Then again who follows the rules as long as your neighbors don't complain. Problem is one of our neighbors I'm not so sure about...🤔

Ill definitely check out the Michigan thread. Thanks!

Sometimes proactive is helpful. Maybe talk to them and ask them to tell you if it's a problem and you will get rid of him.
Otherwise they may fume and call.
