i use both DE and stall dri in the coop and run. my coop is straw and the run is gravel and deep sand. i have watched my chickens in the run, and they are pretty particular to just eat the cracked corn and sunflower seeds, not the sand mix. they do like to dust bath in it tho. I'm sure that they do get a bit of the stall dri dust in their diet, but are healthy and happy all the same.
