De-worming Treatment?

Here's a photo of the worm (I saw two)... don't mind the big black thing in the upper left side of picture, that's just a sunflower seed.

That's a large roundworm. If you're sure they don't have capillary worms too, you can do this"

Safeguard Mash - Zero Day Egg Withdrawal

If they have capillary worms:
  • Safeguard (fenbendazole) paste or liquid for goats, cows, or horses
    • Give 0.23ml per pound of body weight for five consecutive days
  • Valbazen (albendazole)
    • Give 0.08ml per pound of body weight once and repeat in 10-14 days

If anyone is keeping score, I did ask my vet about "worms in eggs" she researched it (she has resources I don't have access to) and said... "while rare, in between ovulation from the ovary and the laying down of egg shell in the shell gland, it is possible for adult roundworms to "crawl" up from the hen's cloaca and be enclosed into the shell." So, there you have it.

Showed the worm photo to my vet friend…yup roundworms. So I’m treating with Safe-Guard (fenbendazole) suspension 10% (100mg/mL) at .23mL per pound of bird. Each bird (I have six) will get a small piece of bread with their dosage and a dollop of vanilla yogurt (to sweeten the deal) once on Tuesday then again on Sunday. I will toss the eggs for 14 days (apparently you don’t have to but I will because of the yuck factor).

And as a bonus to the drama, I went out to the coop and a fox pooped twice right in front of the door! 😐
