dead 5 month old chick

i woke up this morning and went out to let all my chickens out and only 8 came out so i looked in the nesting box and one was laying there dead

it looked to have been squashed it was curled up in the corner with its head tilted back and feet in the air BUT there was no blood so i was wondering if it was scared to death, shocked, or a disease??? please help i dont want my 8 hens 1 rooster and 3 ducks to get sick..... any ideas??? but we had a hail storm on thursday AND we think she could have been hit on the head by hail, ran into the coop got there and well... um...

could she have been trying to get as far into the coop as posible because she was in pain?

So sorry about what happened! I had one die kind of a sudden death like that and I sent the body away to UCDavis for a narcropsy. We are still waiting for the final result. We would love to help you but there is really no way we can speculate as to what happened and be acurate. It sucks not knowing. I hope you get some answers.
