This past Friday (4 days ago now) we got 40 meat chicks. They’re a little less than a week old now. Cornish and rangers. Since Friday there have been 3 that have died. I know when you get larger quantities of chicks it’s kinda a numbers game and some losses are expected. But what would be a normal(ish) # out of 40 chicks?! This isn’t my first time with chicks or brooding. I’ve never had an issue before but I’ve also only brooded smaller #s before. The most i had at once was 12 before this. Bc I know someone will ask, pine shavings for bedding, I had an electrolyte mix in their water at first, now just plain water. Dumor chick starter. Grit.

of forty meat chicks i think i would expect that and maybe couple more.. use about 2-3 caps of cider viniger in water and have water and food far apart. and i would have an area about 4' x 10' for that many.. i use straw for bedding as it easier for them to scratch for the food they fling when eating..

I thought about doing acv in their water too. They just got done w the electrolyte water so maybe I’ll toss a little bit in there. Food and water are separate and their brooder is plenty big!
