Dead baby quail & odd behavior

I'll let you know the outcome. I've successfully hatched and raised quail before. IDK what is wrong with these babies. Solid advice, definitely sticking with hatcheries in the future.
That chick looks like it's struggling to breathe. Could be a respiratory infection due to bacteria in the incubator or brooder. It's highly contagious so I could definitely separate any that show symptoms.

That's definitely possible. If the eggs come from unsanitary conditions, they can carry bacteria on the shell. Warm, humid conditions like an incubator or brooder are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria to spread as well.
Oh geez. That solidifies my resolve to go with a more well known commercial breeder. There's no one around me that does coturnix that I could visit first and check out. Thanks for the input.

How would it get an infection from the incubator? I've used it once before this and followed cleaning instructions.
What can I do to prevent it in the future? Could it have been something with the eggs when I got them that caused the infection?
Sorry for all the questions but I have another incubator going with duck and guinea. There is definitely be cross contamination.

Even if you cleaned the incubator, you can introduce new bacteria if the eggs are carrying it. All you can do is get eggs from trusted sources. You can ask if I can see their enclosures/birds before buying. Dirty enclosures + sick birds = tons of bacteria everywhere including on eggs. I would definitely keep those sick quail away from any other birds and thoroughly clean everything they've come in contact with.

I had them in their box but on top of a temporary cage for a baby duckling born June 1st. Is there anything I should give the duckling?
The other birds tried to peck away but I didn't let them. Never ended up leaving the babies outside.

Thanks so much for everything
