Dead birds - Pic of tracks added Pg 4

Using that, all three men here think it was a dog.

Yeah I meant dog, but got hung up comparing the cat tracks

I swear I must be dyslexic lately

ETA: Looks like you can see nails in the pic. Cats claws would be retracted, actually a cat that big would likely just jump the fence easily anyway.

Most likely dog, I THINK I see some claw marks on the edges. Cats don't usually leave claw marks on their tracks.

Every big-footed dog around is suspect, including your own. Even a Basset or Daschund could have big feet and dig like a maniac. First thing you need is hardware cloth for an apron around the fence. How many miles? Maybe hog fencing buried all round? Either that or electric. I got a pretty good electric fence setup at TSC last year, all the parts came to about $150.

I keep having giggling fits, sorry. I just have this weird vision of you or Ken in flannel jammies, sleeping in a sleeping bag with a shotgun out there.
No room to talk here though - just last year, a portly 50+ year old woman out in the middle of the night, wearing a translucent nightie with untied tennies, a flash in one hand, gun bigger than her head in another. Growling at unknown preds.

Yup, that would be me. Many, many nights.

I have GOT to type faster. I was looking in my tracking book while Cindi typed.

It wasn;t ours. No telltale signs on him and he was HIGHLY agitated this morning. Ken did hear him bark, but he barks at ALL the strays so he ignored it.

Him and two others are out there right now, moving the coop around so the property fence is not part of the coop. This is at least give Scooter a chance to get at any predator that comes in the yard before they can get to the coop. And he WILL attack another animal. I've seen him do it. He just couldn't get to this one last night.

You vision is probably pretty close to the truth if the move isn't finished.

Sorry for the losses. I have to agree, those look like dog prints. I'd guess something about 80-100lbs, but some big dogs have small feet and small dogs have big feet. Our 60lb dog fit through a 6x8 inch hole to get out of pet mate kennel... not sure how he fit, but it was him, as we came back to a dog roaming around the apartment.

VERY large dog, like a bull mastiff? Funny thing is one my neighbors has one and she hot wires her fence because he digs out. Yesterday she turned it off because of weeds. So instead of getting off her hind end and clearing the weeds, I lost most of my flock. I ever see her she is gonna get an earful.

I have one of those big ugly things lurking around my fence lately too. It's going to get shot

I shot it with the BB gun today and it stood there and looked at me like I was stupid...next time it won't be BB's! Sorry for your chickies and for your bad day
