Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.

Check your nesting boxes. You said it’s above the vents. Not sure what they are made of or anything but I bug splintered piece of wood or nail/screw. That’s be the only other place I can think of where that area would be…..exposed?
