Hello! I have successfully hatched 8 eggs and have happy healthy chicks. I just had 4 chicks hatch yesterday afternoon, I woke up this morning to this? :( What could have happened? The incubator had the same readings as the other chicks I hatched!! Please help

Ive never seen anything like that, it looks to me like ruptured yolk sacs, a bunch of them. It seems they were premature. Did you assist with the hatches at all?
If they were in a heated incubator, I don't see why they'd all be so wet still- are you sure the incubator was working properly?

I did not help with hatching. 3 were hatched when I got home and the other 1 hatched a few hours later. They were behaving normal after hatching. I am wonder if incubator lost power and then came back on.

I can definitely see a couple yolks, decent sizes, and there's yolk all over the floor of the incubator- I don't really see how they could have been acting normally. If they were premature, they wouldn't act normally and you'd see the yolk attached

Do you have a separate calibrated thermometer in there? And a hygrometer?

i couldnt do that on purpose and make it look any worse, so im at a loss to explain it lol .. sick part about it is theres people in this world ya know ..

I just use the items that came with the incubator. I had no trouble hatching the others I have. The unhatched egg in the photo appears to have started leaking, maybe it kept it to moist in the incubator?

No one is saying that you did it on purpose, not at all
Chicks do sometimes hatch prematurely, but it isn't super common, which is why I asked if you had tried to help them hatch- people do this often, with good intentions

It definitely could have leaked out and caused some of that spilt yolk and egg contents
But there's still the ruptured yolks attached to the chicks--
I know it's unpleasant, but could you get more photos of the chicks, so that we can see the naval/tummy areas? I'm just curious if they were all premature or if it was just two. That could help us figure out the causes of deaths.

If there isn't a hygrometer or calibrated thermometer, the readings might not have been accurate, incubators often lie about temperatures. It may have been cooler and too humid inside, when these ones hatched, that could be why the chicks remained so wet, and if it was too cool, they could have become chilled.

I'm really just brainstorming, I can't give you a definite answer as to what happened, but hopefully we can narrow it down so that it doesn't happen again :hugs

I have already cleaned up the mess. Thank you for your help. I will try another batch, fingers crossed I have no issues. They hatched at 21 days so I am confused. I will update with next round.
