Well it finally happened to me last night. Luckily I knew what was going on and was prepared to deal with it.

I walked up to the brooder last night and found 2 of my new little White Leghorn chicks on their sides with eyes closed. A total newbie at chickens would have suspected that they were in fact deceased. But I, no longer being a complete newbie at chickens, knew that they were only sleeping. Sure enough when I called "Hey chick chick." They perked right up and ran to be with their fellow brood mates. Including the SSs which I know are going to be a bad influence on them.

They looked so adorable laying there like that. Sometimes it is simply the little things in life that are worth experiencing.

The little ones are definitely a hoot. Of course the big ones have their share of antics too.

They are so adorable lazed around the light. I love to watch them - walk to the warmth and start to slow, then very slowly their head drops and they are standing there alseep

Or they kind of melt into the shavings.

3 years ago, i had my first 6 chickens, and i came home one afternoon, and they were all dead in the driveway! I slammed the brakes on, and leapt out of the car, totally FREAKING out and screaming. and they all stood up, shook their feathers, gave me dirty looks and walked away. they were dust bathing! crazy.

I remember our rooster coming running with the most horrible gait imaginable, I thought he was injured. On closer inspection, his featers were so full of wood chips from dustbathing in the flower beds that he was unsure how to run. Shook himself a couple of times and shed half his weight flinging it 2-3 feet away.

Yep, the little memories are fun.
