My 3 week old Swedish hen is dead. It was the weirdest thing . Heard to loud thuds and or loud commotion of the birds and found princess buttercup dead next to food bowl. I don’t know if she had a seizure or flew into something. Awful bc she was my favorite. I hope my brooder setup didn’t cause any issues. It’s a Metal grid dog cage with a foot high cardboard.

Pic of setup and maybe her body?

We already buried her. Not a scratch on her. She was dead when we found her.

She didn’t die, but she had a very bad leg sprain and is just now recovering. Beautiful EE pullet named Vanilla.

I just couldn’t help but feel that it was my fault. She’s just the sweetest thing and was in a lot of pain and I blamed myself.

Your setup is almost just like mine. I have my 9 five week old chicks - three of them are Swedish Flower Hens and these three are my favorites of the nine and I love them all but out of the Black:Lavender Orpingtons and Creme Legbars that round out my group of nine triplets of lover bears as I lovingly call my flock of flying diving ditch digging excavating dinosaur looking teenagers as to the phase they are in with almost no down left on them now. The SFHens are the most curious and easiest to call up to me. They step right into my hands and have for weeks. They are flying like crazy and have been so I am so afraid they are going to have a freak accident. My kennel is for a giant size Schnauzer. It can hold two large German Shepherds comfortably for a nap. So it is big for those chicks to fly in but I get antsy when they have a flying competition like they do. You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just the nature of having chickens. I’m watching and waiting for our first tragedy. We have two small dogs. I so hope it won’t be one of them. Probably my daughter’s Shichon. She is cute as a bug but a heifer. I am sorry for your loss but please don’t think it’s your fault. Best of luck with the rest of your flock. Tell us about them please.
Pam
