I have learned that cocci does not always have to have blood in their stools however is the best way to tell that they have it and runny stools are more proof that they have it. This infection comes from the egg and is most likely from one or both parents as per my educational speech from our states lab vets. I had a clutch of production red chicks with it last year and had to medicate them twice before it finally went away and lost 3 in the process since I didn't know what it was.

It's an educational learning experience for us beginners and I know now which makes it best for all.
 
Yes, you're right, in my case it were from hatch day verses the egg! I just read my notes from the state livestock lab's vets from chicks that I had picked up last year! Dang, the older we get the more we forget!!!
