Update: I didn't realize this post was made and essentially redid it after finalizing signing up for an account. The other post is a bit more detailed.

I am fairly new to chickens and had a chicken die. When she was found, she was on her side with her legs stretched out. There is no sign of vent issues. She didn't appear to be eggbound. All of the other birds seem healthy. The only thing we noticed was her eye was slightly swollen on one side and the area around her eye was a dark red. The other side seemed fine. None of the other birds seem to have any eye issues. We have had a lot of sudden temperature shifts and it has been difficult to keep the coop dry with on and off snow over the last two weeks.

Any ideas what I should be checking the other birds for? They've all been vaccinated for Mereks. This particular hen was just under two years old. She was an easter egger and around a medium size. I didn't get any pictures unfortunately. My husband was very distraught as it was his favorite hen and buried her pretty quickly.
