Dead Chicks?

They hatched in the middle of the night and I had other chicks in the brooder that I needed to move to the outside coop. I looked at my watch and I didn't have the time so I figured I would handle it when I get back from work.

I had about 6 at the time hatched. I usually take out 4 at a time so they don't kick the other eggs around
Gotchya, I was just curious.

I scrubed the incubator with bleach and hosed it down, opened all vents, lowered temp to not pass 100,and giving it another go. If the same thing happens again I'm giving up hatching. I think I will be ok though

my directions with my three incubators say not to exceed65% humindity hatching and 39% to 55% for setting

I have found that 30% -35% humidity for incubation the first 17 days (and monitoring the air cells to guide if you need to adjust) and 75% humidity at hatch is what works for me and a lot of others, especially in the styros. A lot of drowning happens above 45% in the styros for the first 17 days. I don't even like it climbing to 40%. Unless your in a high elevation, they need more humidity.

Some lady told me to keep the humidity as high as possible during hatching. That hasn't worked out well for me so I'm going to go with the 65% deal. I have a new brooder and I hope it gets filled up with chicks :) I am most definitely never leaving the chicks on long either

High humidity at hatch shouldn't pose any problems with hatching. You don't want to see condensation in your bator and chicks don't fluff and dry easy with higher humidity, but they should hatch ok. Lots of people use 65% and if you aren't an obnoxious meddler with me that is usually enough.

What do you mean by obnoxious meddler?

Obnoxious meddler, I saw that statement and knew AmyLynn would be here. Bahaha!
It means opening the bator, checking eggs, pulling chicks, candling candling and more candling.....constantly. Basically, no true lockdown.
And be careful. Obnoxious meddling is contagious. Once you figure out how to do it, you won't stop!
