Dead duck in pond

Is the pond enclosed or out in the open?

We have a fenced yard

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have 2 Runner drakes and although sex is their lifes work I just can't imagine 1 killing a female. Not saying it can't be done. Just seems just one drake when it's usually more than one ganging up on a female that causes drowning.
There wasn't any signs of injury on her?

I've seen it happen with wild ducks (and had to intervene). Even with 1 Drake, they can grab the back of the ducks head and hold them under water for a while. They get super aggressive during mating season and will literally mate until the duck is near drowning. It's not impossible for 1 to do it, sadly .

Well I knew more than one drake could cause drowning, but in all the years I have had ducks I've never had one of my drakes hold one under long enough to drown one. Thank goodness.

Is it possible that they couldn't get out then got waterlogged?

They go into that pond every day. I wonder if the water level was low hmm, something to think about. Thanks
