Dead ducks

Last night we had something come into a pen and maul two ducks. Didn't eat them. My brother says it seems to have went through the flight netting. I was thinking weasels. It beheaded them whatever it was. Any other ideas? We've been at war with rats but got them at Bay finally and now this.

Anything can come through flight netting (except maybe flyers)... weasels, raccoon, possum, mink, domestic dog, bob cat, coyote...

Raccoon usually take heads off through the fence by reaching in and grabbing.

1/2 inch welded wire hardware cloth, properly secured covering all openings is what most of use to keep predators at bay.

So sorry for your loss.

Any survivors? Your predator will be back for more chicken dinner.

Good for you for fighting the rats! Keep it up, it's a constant battle for poultry keepers.

If you have a game camera, put it up. The predator will most likely be back. Here we have mostly coyotes and I see them most nights on a camera.
Last night or rather early this morning behind some of the coops.

Sorry this happened to you. We had our eight week old ducks in a kennel setting which had been safe for our other ducks previously, and a bobcat ate two of their heads off. Just paced around it for an hour and a half, reaching in (caught photos on game camera). We reinforced the kennel after that, of course. I never would have thought a bobcat could get its paws through there ( or that the ducks would stand so close and not just go in the house).

I agree with the above poster about hardware cloth. Helps a lot. Helps to bury it slightly to prevent digging.
