Dead hatched chicks from a broody silkie

Supposed to keep folks from buying one or two chicks, ducks, bunnies for easter presents.

Wow, I get the idea... but that's crazy! 6 is lot for a small family and a small coop.

Maybe state, since I've never heard it before... here in Ca. A somewhat smaller number would seem more reasonable. But that's what you get when big brother reaches in!

Why when my Hubby is so adamant about getting out of Ca... I tell him he just doesn't know about the stupid regulations of other states because he doesn't deal with them everyday...

.....but I saw a teen wanting to buy one chick at a small pet/farm store, owner told her you have to buy at least 2, and cage, heat lamp, feeder, waterer, etc.
Kid had NO clue how to take care of an animal....that's why the 'rule' exists, tho obviously some ignore it.

It's like 'giving away' a 'free' pet/animal......you charge money so the uncommitted go away.

Yes, it's surprising how many don't even know to to use chick/chicken feed. I come across so many on here. But many still won't know about all the help available at BYC, I'm so glad I found it!!

One time in the past (26 years ago, wow I'm getting old

) at a "health fair" someone gave me a precious single chick. I don't remember too much... but I'm sure I had no heat lamp and no clue. The chick did well until it hit the ugly stage and found it a new home. Wish I could remember a little better. But no one said to me they are social creatures. And we didn't have the internet back then making info so readily available. And I didn't have the mindset to go to the library or didn't realize at that point that libraries were a great place to find info..

So I definitely do realize that some rules and laws that don't seem to make sense on the surface definitely do have a purpose.
