Hi there. I have a mixed crew of 6 hens. I had three in my tractor and had three babies in a brooder in my garage. My the hens outside were around 4 months. All was good. This weekend I put my younger three out with them. Yesterday I noticed my BLR Wyandotte Maisey was not feeling good. She was gasping for air and not eating or drinking. I grabbed her out and seperated her. She died later that evening in my arms. Ny husband split her neck open and no gape works were present. No nasal drainage or puffy eyes or anything.

I went ahead and treated with Duramycin incase of something respiratory. Now my Pencil Rock Amelia is sneezing and pale in the face. No drainage or eyes...but shes not eating as much or drinking as much..but some.

Chicken in question. This was her today.

so what do I do? What happened? My little chicks are fine. My sex link who is the remainder of my older 3 is fine.

Since its obviously contagious should I cull them all and start over? Do I wait and see who survives?

How many days of antibiotics?

Duramycin is to be given for 7-14 days, meaning if they are not all well after 7 days, keep treating. If I were you I would try to get any birds I lost necropsied by your state lab to get a diagnosis. Here is how to find that: http://agr.wa.gov/FoodAnimal/AnimalHealth/statevets.aspx You can find out how to preserve the body. Maybe you caught it in time. Mycoplasma, coryza, and ILT usually have facial or eye swelling, eye bubbles. Infectious bronchitis usually just involves sneezing and nasal discharge, but usually isn't that bad on older chickens.

Ill continue to give the medicine for like 6 more days. If anymore get sick and die I am gonna cull them all.

My buff orpington has the same problem (gasping, still eating and drinking, no eyes problem) and I was giving her tylan. She is doing fine now.
