This morning when I went out to the coop, one of our hens was laying dead at the bottom of the roost. No sign of any outside critter getting in, our coop is pretty tight. Her head and neck were bloody as though she had been pecked to death?? Our roosters have just begun topping the hens and I know we have too many, it was 7 (hens) to 5(roosters). Did they kill her and is the reason the ratio??? Help!!!

First, let me say that I'm sorry to hear about your hen.

Next, you might get more response by moving your thread to the Emergency/Diseases section.

Third, from what I've read, your ratio is too high, but I can't tell you if that is what killed your bird

New pix added... anyone see such as this before?

So sorry for your loss and it looks like she did get pecked to death. Get rid of the roosters and hopefully youll be ok. Good luck
