I was checking out injuries yesterday -


Sharpie - Broken toe as well as bite wounds on back
Bandit- Bite wounds on back and limping - unknown reason
Catfish- Havent been able to catch her yet ... stinky duck...



Is there anything I can do for the bite wounds? They seem to have "healed"


The wound part that must have been open in a reddish brown color and the actual skin all around it is yellow, Is that normal?

I just got this thread. I'm so sorry for your loss but I'm also very happy for those you've been able to save. Take a picture of the dog prints in the mud. A picture says everything! I've just started with chickens this year and I live near "Hawk Mountain",Pa so I don't let my chickens run free. Hawks fly over our property several times a day. My neighbor has chickens also and he has had several losses.

I wouldn't say it is not normal, but keep an eye on them for a while. the brown is a scab type thing that seals the wound while it is healing if there is a infection it might lift the scab to allow the wound to drain. if that happens or the yellow part raises above skin level you might have to drain and clean the wound and then pack it with an antibiotic oinment like neosporin (not spelled right I hope you know what I mean) I wouldn't mess with it myself I have seen many bite wounds that healed themselves ducks tend to be pretty tough when it comes to self healing. If they are with the flock make sure the other birds are not picking at the wounds.

How long do you think tilll it hatches? I can hear it from the other room!
