Dead or Alive? Silkie Eggs, Day 12, Photos

I'd love to get opinions on whether or not these two brown silkie eggs (day 12) that I just candled are still viable???

It's hard to tell with any of the silkie eggs since the shells are brown...The other silkie eggs seem to have darker areas that I hope are living embryos, but I can't see movement...My white Appenzeller eggs (set at the same time in the same incubator) have easy to detect embryos that move when the light's on them....

I would love to get any more experienced member's thoughts, opinions, and links to other photos!!!!! I searched for over an hour today to find examples of "good" and "bad" eggs at different stages of development...Found a few, but not many. This is my first time hatching, so ANY information would be so very much appreciated!!!!

I dont know about the first pic...but the second looks like a blood ring to me, so this one is probably no good...I'd wait to hear from the experts to toss it though (in case I am wrong)

Based on the photos I found today, I agree...The second one looks like a blood ring. The first one looks like it may have been growing for awhile, but compared to the other 9 eggs, doesn't appear to have a dark shadow that's large enough to be an embryo at 12 days. One of the eggs (not pictures) definitely had never been fertilized, so I took it out. I left the others in the incubator to wait for feedback before I made any hasty decisions. Thanks!

Second one looks dead. First one you should be seeing the chick wiggling around. I have a really dark egg breed and I can still see the movement of the developing chick. The below video is what you see in embryology classes.

Thanks Xero! Very interesting video!!! Just candled a few more and I CAN see a few of the silkies moving. The "Iffy" ones I'll leave in until the next ( & last) time I candle on day 16 or 17, right before I put the incubator in lock-down. Thank you!

Yeah, I did the same with the iffy ones. If you have a clear view of the embryo at all you can tell if they are developing or not since they change so much over a couple of days.

Thank you. Good link! I started with 12 silkie eggs and 10 appenzellers, and I am now down to 7 and 7.

Well, I guess I should be grateful for that....I had a malfunction with my turner sometime after I set the eggs, and they may not have been turned for as much as 48 hours I am just hopeful that the rest make it out alright and that none of them are stuck to the shell.

BTW, does anyone know if you can tell if embryos are stuck to the shell inside when candling?
