Hello,

I hope y'all are well,

A Few months ago I bought some quail chicks and raised them up. They're only around 4 ish months old. One of my girlies died today :( idk how

She showed no signs of a broken neck and looked perfectly fine, I saw a red mite which might mean she got something from it. But it wasn't an infestation and was only one. Idk how this happened im so sad. This quail didn't ever like me but she was really sweet

I had the correct ratio (1:4 ) so it's not over mating. Idk how this happened :/

I'm so frustrated cuz I just got back from the vet with one of my other birds and it's like URGHh.

Is there anything I should watch out for in the flock?

I noticed some nasal discharge when I picked up one of my hens to treat them for mites
I forgot to mention - my mum gave them pasta a few days ago. It wasn't that much but it was the stuff the chickens didn't finish. Could that have caused sourcrop to kill her? I didn't notice any problems though

I'm sorry about your Quail.

It can be hard to know why a bird has died unless you investigate further through necropsy.

You mention you saw a red mite, only one, but if there's one, there's more.
You'll want to get on top of that asap so an infestation doesn't start.

I'd use a Permethrin based poultry spray to treat the housing in 5 day intervals, making sure to get into nooks/crannies. Clean out the bedding each time, throw it away or burn it, don't compost it.

It would also be a good idea to dust each Quail with a Permethrin based poultry dust.

Do you provide grit for your Quail? Always a good idea to provide Grit (Crushed Granite) so they can process foods adequately. I used Chick Grit when I had Quail.

Do your Quail have access to dirt or do you provide them with a dust bathing tub?

Hello
I have an aviary so they have access to grit, they also have access to shellgrit.
I dusted them off and dusted(using a sulfur mix dust I got from my seed and feed store) down the cage. I didn't find any others.
